Alcohol and age rules in Colorado

Colorado Revised Statutes 42-4-1305 (read 2026-09-17) prohibits an open alcoholic-beverage container in a vehicle's passenger area, but carves out an exception: "Passengers, other than the driver or a front seat passenger, located in the passenger area of a motor vehicle designed, maintained, or used primarily for the transportation of persons for compensation" are excepted. Read plainly, that means: rear and mid-cabin passengers in a for-hire bus are exempt, but the driver and any front-seat passenger are not, regardless of the vehicle type. Other alcohol laws (DUI, underage drinking) are unaffected.
