Bus rental in Chattanooga: airport rules and operator checks

A bus with a driver in Chattanooga, TN for transfers, airport runs, events and same-day round trips.

Price shown before you commit, confirmed before you pay.

Trip type

Estimate only. No provider or vehicle is assigned yet. We check availability and send a written quote before you pay.

A Chattanooga operator that picks up at the airport has to be registered with the airport authority and pay a curb fee, and one that works only inside Tennessee may have no USDOT number at all. That changes what you should ask for. This page provides local research and an estimate form. It does not show verified provider coverage. A person must find and check an available operator before any written quote.

How does a bus pick up a group at CHA?

The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority's commercial ground transportation rules, dated December 2021 and linked from the airport's site (read 2026-09-26), set three conditions:

  • Every vehicle picking up for pay must display "a valid CMAA hangtag on the vehicle's rearview mirror as well as a decal on the upper passenger side of the windshield."
  • Curb pickups carry a fee: "Buses $105.00 per vehicle per quarter," or "$20.00 per vehicle per day" for a non-registered vehicle.
  • A permitted vehicle "shall use only the hold area or loading area assigned to them," and may not stop where it blocks traffic.

The rules define a charter as a prearranged trip whose operator may not pick up anyone who was not in the original trip plan, which is exactly a group pickup. What to do: ask the operator whether its bus carries a CMAA hangtag or will pay the day fee, and where its assigned loading area is. Either way the fee belongs to the operator, so ask whether it is inside the quote.

Who licenses a bus operator in Tennessee?

The Tennessee Department of Revenue issues Intrastate Authority, which "allows for-hire motor carriers ... to use any of the public highways of Tennessee for the transportation of persons or property, or both, in intrastate commerce" (read 2026-09-26). We found no public lookup for it, so ask the operator for its authority and a certificate of insurance that names the vehicle.

Tennessee is not on FMCSA's list of states that require a USDOT number from intrastate carriers. A Chattanooga operator that never crosses a state line may therefore have none; one that runs trips into Georgia, a few miles south, must have one, and you can check it on FMCSA's SAFER Company Snapshot. See how to check a charter bus company.

Party buses in Chattanooga

Local operators list party buses, including a 34-passenger bus, but none publishes a price. GoBussin has not confirmed party bus supply here. A person must find an available operator before any written quote. The Chattanooga party bus guide covers what to ask and Tennessee's driver-only alcohol rule.

Chattanooga questions

  • Can you arrange a trip to north Georgia? Not yet. A trip that crosses a state line goes to a person, who can help you plan it but not book it through us.
  • Does a downtown or hotel pickup need the airport hangtag? No. The CMAA rules govern pickups on airport property.
