Dallas has two airports with very different bus rules, and Texas decides whether an operator needs a state certificate by the size of the vehicle. Both matter when you book.
How does a bus pick up a group at Love Field and DFW?
Dallas Love Field (DAL). "All buses at Dallas Love Field Airport pick up and drop off along the lower-level of the terminal curb on Herb Kelleher Way." Staging at the curb is not allowed: "Buses waiting to pick up passengers MUST stage in the designated area on Aubrey Avenue, near the airport entrance." Every bus company, charter included, must register with the city as a transportation service provider under the Dallas City Code, Chapter 5 (read 2026-09-26).
Dallas Fort Worth (DFW). DFW charges each commercial vehicle an access fee; for a bus it was $6.36 a trip in its fiscal 2025 schedule of charges. It requires the NTTA TollTag system, and a vehicle without one is charged $32 each time it exits the parking revenue area. The fee covers two hours inside that area; after that, public parking rates apply. A driver on a pre-arranged trip must be able to show the pickup's terminal and curb location on request (read 2026-09-26).
What that means for your group: at Love Field the bus waits on Aubrey Avenue and comes to the curb when you call, so call only when everyone has their bags. At DFW, a long wait for a delayed flight can add parking charges on top of the access fee; ask the operator whether airport fees are inside the quote, and give it every flight number.
Who licenses a bus operator in Texas?
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles requires a TxDMV certificate from a carrier that operates "a vehicle designed to transport more than 15 passengers, including the driver" (read 2026-09-26). You can check a certificate on TxDMV's Texas Truck Stop lookup. Texas is also on FMCSA's list of states that require a USDOT number from intrastate carriers.
The size line matters: a coach or a large party bus falls above it, while a 14-seat sprinter or a small limo bus may fall below it and hold no TxDMV certificate. For those, the USDOT number and a certificate of insurance naming the vehicle are the records to ask for. See how to check a charter bus company.
Party buses in Dallas
Dallas party bus minimums vary by day and event, and peak dates can require a longer block. The Dallas party bus guide shows what to check in a full quote and explains the Texas alcohol rule. For a stadium trip, read where a charter bus parks at AT&T Stadium first: buses park only in part of Lot 15, with a bus pass.
