In Los Angeles, a bus operator needs California's own charter-party carrier (TCP) authority from the Public Utilities Commission, which covers party buses as well as coaches. At LAX, charter buses also stage from a lot that moved during construction, so an old map can be wrong.

How does a charter bus pick up a group at LAX and Burbank?

LAX. Los Angeles World Airports moved the charter bus lot to "6226 W 96th Street," reached via 96th Street, effective September 10, 2025 (notice read 2026-09-26). Charter buses need a LAWA ground transportation permit; LAWA lists "TCP Charter" permits for charter buses in its permit program. LAX publishes roadway alerts during construction, so the operator should confirm the active lot and your passenger meeting point within a day of travel.

Hollywood Burbank (BUR). Burbank publishes no charter bus rule. The closest it gives is that shuttles pick up "on the ground transportation islands in front of the Terminal." Ask the operator where it will meet the group.

For either airport, give the operator every flight number, keep the group together after baggage claim, and do not use family pickup or LAX-it instructions for a private charter.

Who licenses a bus operator in California?

The California Public Utilities Commission's charter-party carrier authority "covers passenger carriers that perform charter service, round trip sightseeing, or passenger transportation," and its own example is "a group charter of a bus to go to a sporting event or charter of a limousine for a wedding" (read 2026-09-26). Party bus companies hold it too: the CPUC's carrier portal lists licensed operators trading under names such as "Cali Party Bus." Look an operator up on the CPUC Transportation Carrier Portal and ask for its TCP number with the quote. California also requires a USDOT number from intrastate carriers.

One more California rule: when a charter is booked, the carrier must ask whether alcohol will be aboard and whether anyone in the group is under 21. If both are true, the law requires an adult designee aged 25 or older on the trip (Public Utilities Code 5384.1, read 2026-09-26). We do not arrange party buses for anyone under 21, so the rule matters most for a mixed-age group on a standard charter where adults plan to bring alcohol. See how to check a charter bus company.

Party buses in Los Angeles

Los Angeles party bus minimums vary by day, holiday, and vehicle size. The Los Angeles party bus guide shows how to check mileage, tolls, parking, and gratuity in a written total. For a stadium trip, read where a charter bus parks at SoFi Stadium: SoFi counts buses, shuttles, motorcoaches and any vehicle seating 16 or more as oversize.
